It’s been over three years since Kompakt co-founder and techno savant REINHARD VOIGT kick-started the KX outfit with his long sold- out RV01/ RV02 release (KX 01) in 2015 – two raw, psychoactive techno jams that have since gone seminal and gave the newly minted label a distinct edge. With RV03 / RV04, Voigt presents the long-awaited sequel with two sizzling new cuts that sit well within the pounding, minimalistic traditions of his rich and varied body of work, but also introduce a few sonic quirks to keep things fresh. RV03 takes the helm with Profan-styled drum stumbles running alongside hypnotic percussion and a nerve-tickling, simplistic two-tone sequence that moves things forward. It’s a classic Reinhardian roller looking for a way down the rave rabbit hole – and finding it. RV04 presents a laid- back groove interspersed with nazzy synth blurps and wobbly bass. So far, so techno – however, Voigt surprises with angular vocal intonations, a kind of bizarre giggling that adds an decidedly alien flair to the track. All in all, it’s signature Reinhard Voigt: keeping listeners hooked with deceptively simple ingredients, but then nudging them into unexpected territory with a few well-placed sonic traps.

I’m going through a cancer scare at the moment. I got this album at the same time. It’s helping a lot really. Not in the mood for fun club music so, this ambient sound is soothing me. These sounds are beautiful and stark. My fav track is The Antiphon. Justin David Rumsby
